Easy Peasy Gluten-Free Crostini Appetizer
No longer do you have covet everyone else noshing on toasty golden crostini bruschetta, dipping in soups, or sopping up bits of salad dressing. It’s your time to enjoy a garlicky gluten-free crostini with glee!
Once this crusty with soft interior gluten-free baguette recipe was created, the floodgates opened with culinary possibilities. Savory dips served alongside crudités? Yes, please. A crunchy side to go with my favorite gluten-free soup recipes? Why wouldn’t I?!
Before you question what’s so earth shattering about a GF crostini recipe, let me fill you in on why this one earns a happy dance. First of all, it has a rich, irresistible flavor punch to it. Minced garlic, kosher salt, and a combo of butter with olive oil makes it delicious enough to eat on its own or compliments a multitude of topping ideas.
Let’s talk about that butter / olive oil combo. Why both? Softened butter adds a creamy, rich flavor versus all oil. Also, the combo makes an ideal consistency to suspend minced garlic in the mixture for easy spreading. Plus, olive oil adds that hint of Italian flair.
I did all the overthinking on making a simple recipe into the crème-de-la-crème version, so let’s get straight to my bonus tips for nailing crostini baguettes!
Let’s Make This Together!
(Below shows step-by-step photos and modified instructions. For the complete recipe, along with ingredient amounts, scroll down to the recipe card.)
Gluten-Free Bread Options
For best taste and texture, I recommend starting off with homemade gluten-free french bread. For a store-bought option, Schar makes a solid GF baguette, but I’d stay away from Udi’s. If you have a stale loaf sitting around, use that! Slice whatever you choose at an angle for bigger surface area and it looks fancier (always the goal).

Top with garlic goodness and bake
Mix together the minced garlic (garlic paste, if you are feeling lazy), softened butter, oil, and salt. If you need a dairy-free adaptation, skip the butter and just use 4 tablespoons olive oil. Spread or brush it on one side of the bread then bake at 375℉ for 20-25 minutes.
To get gluten-free crostini baguettes really toasty, it’s best to flip the bread halfway through baking. Otherwise, it will be golden on one side and softer on the other. GF bread needs a little extra push to get crisp.

Air Fryer Method
If you’re looking for a quicker baking option, using an air fryer to make crostini does the trick. Bake at 380ºF for 5-6 minutes. Same as the baked method, flipping the bread halfway through makes sure it gets toasty on each side.
Gluten-Free Topping Ideas
We now have the vessel. Of course it’s the ideal base for classic Italian gluten-free bruschetta bread, but how else can it be put to a yummy use?
- Creamy baked ricotta with honey
- Baked feta
- Serve alongside soups or salad
- Spread with whipped goat cheese or feta
- Tomato bruschetta
- Grilled peaches, fresh basil, and a drizzle of balsamic
- Steak slider appetizers
- Pesto and fresh mozzarella
- Tuscan bean dip
Make-Ahead, SToring, and Freezing Tips
Making some fresh crostini goes hand-in-hand with party prep. But, no one wants to locked down in a kitchen when it comes to hosting. Luckily, GF crostini can be made ahead of time.
If storing at room temperature, I recommend using within a few hours. The longer it sits, it will absorb moisture and soften. Once it’s cooled completely, cover with aluminum foil until ready to use.
For longer storage I suggest freezing it. I like to double wrap mine. Stack about four together, wrap in plastic wrap, then transfer to a freezer ziplock bag. Pull out what you need and let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before using.
If you find your crostini has gotten a little soft upon storing, you can always pop it back in the oven for a few minutes to crisp up again.
